It's been a long time coming, but it's finally going down this Saturday August 31, 2019 in Cowboy Stadium. Calling all alumni and fans come out and see some exciting Labor Day college gridiron! SWLA's own McNeese State University Cowboys will take on the Southern University Jaguars this weekend, game time is at 6 p.m.

The two schools met only once before in 2004, where MSU traveled to Jaguar Nation and fell to Southern 35-15. A rematch was scheduled the following year in 2005, however Cowboys never got a shot at redemption because the game was canceled due to Hurricane Katrina. The catastrophic damage the storm left behind would result in the game being cancelled indefinitely. In 2017 McNeese Director of Athletics Bruce Hemphill, announced that McNeese would play the legendary HBCU August 31,2019 via mcneesesports.com. Hemphill said this is not a make-up game adding,

"We're excited to have such a great program come to Cowboy Stadium, in what will no doubt, draw a big crowd." He continued, "It's always great when you can get an in-state team like Southern to come to your place. With their large fan base and alumni numbers, it will make for an exciting atmosphere and more than likely a capacity crowd."

The feeling is mutual. The Jaguar Nation players and staff are looking forward to having their second match-up with the Cowboys as well. Southern Interim AD Roman Banks said,

"With our commitment to broadening the Southern University brand, traveling to Lake Charles to face McNeese will provide a unique opportunity to add a storied in-state football program to our 2019 schedule and expose Southwest Louisiana to Jaguar football and the Jaguar Nation."

By the way, McNeese has more big games lined up this year to include taking a trip to Oklahoma State September 7, and taking on Alcorn State here at home on September 14( 2019 Football Schedule.)
