The New Power Generation, Prince’s band through the 1990s and 2000s, has announced that they are reuniting and embarking on the tour.

According to Billboard, members of the group will perform at the Celebration 2017 at Paisley Park in honor of the one-year anniversary of Prince’s death on April 23. Afterward, NPG will perform a concert at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in California on May 22. More dates are expected to be announced.

NPG is following in the footsteps of The Revolution who are also hitting the road this spring. Former Revolution members Andre Cymone, Kip Blackshire, Marva King, Tommy Barbarella, Levi Seacer Jr., Kirk Johnson, Tony Mosley, Sonny Thompson and Damon Dickson will perform on the trek. Other members, including drummer Michael Bland and vocalist Shelby J will rotate in as needed and as their schedules permit.

“It’s celebrating Prince. The fan is key,” said Morris Hayes, NPG’s musical director. “That’s the music they want to hear. It was a big family and the family has a lot of kids in it. The songs are the kids and we do them in service of the fans.”

Meanwhile, NPG’s manager Jill Willis, who co-managed Prince in the early ‘90s, revealed a handwritten note by the late Purple One praising NPG. You can read it here.
