Officer Involved Shooting in Lake Charles
As I was looking around on Facebook, I noticed that there was talk of a shooting in Lake Charles. Since this is not a regular occurrence, it made me want to dig a little into the situation and see what was happening out there in the city.
Later last night, I received a press release from LCPD, reporting an incident with an officer-involved shooting on 5th Avenue. The preliminary investigation revealed that LCPD conducted a traffic stop on Tulip near 5th Avenue and officers attempted to apprehend 22-year-old Branden Roberts of Lake Charles.
Roberts was wanted for two counts of attempted homicide. During the traffic stop, LCPD states that Roberts exited the vehicle from the passenger side and discharged a firearm toward the officers.
Roberts then allegedly attempted to flee and was confronted by additional officers, which led to one officer discharging his firearm and Roberts being struck by gunfire. Roberts was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Once he is released, Robert will be booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. There is an active investigation going on with charges related to the incident pending with no additional information at this time.
