UPDATE: LCPD reported Thursday (April 7, 2022) at approximately 1 p.m., 19-year-old Michael Carter turned himself in. Carter was taken into custody and is charged with one count of criminal conspiracy to second-degree murder. His bond has been set at $2.5 million by Judge Tony Fazzio.

The Lake Charles Police Department (LCPD) reports that several people were arrested in connection with the shooting death of 6-year old Draya Michelle Guillory. The child was shot to death at a private residence around 10:44 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022. When LCPD arrived on the scene of the shooting (1400 block of Mill Street) officers found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the home.

The little girl died of her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by Acadian Ambulance EMTs. The incident was determined to be a drive-by shooting and an investigation was launched immediately to hunt down who was responsible for this heinous crime. KPLC reports LCPD Detectives have been working with Crime Scene Technicians and the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, the Southwest Louisiana Crime Laboratory, and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office tirelessly to bring the shooter to justice.

LCPD detectives were able to establish what transpired prior to the fatal shooting. The investigation revealed several suspects connected to the "NawfSideBabies" retaliated with the drive-by because of an ongoing dispute. Investigators have identified several suspects who affiliated themselves with the group and were able to secure a number of arrest warrants based on evidence obtained from the investigation. This continues to be an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact lead Detectives, Sgt. Willie Fontenot or Sgt. Kirk Farquhar, by calling (337) 491-1311.

Officers with the LCPD SWAT Team executed the warrants Wednesday, March 23, 2022, and Monday, April 4, 2022, apprehending several suspects. According to KATC reports, one person is still at large.
