Remembering Tupac on His Birthday Today

When I was working at radio station WSLY in Meridian, Mississippi, I got a call from a friend of mine who was working at a competing radio station. He called to tell me Tupac had been shot. This was before social media, and the word was being relayed through phone calls as opposed to social media pages.

Tupac would have turned 50 years old today, and we still feel the void with his presence being lost. Within a week after the shooting, I heard about Tupac dying, and I felt like I had lost a brother. I remember hearing his first album, 2Pacalypse Now, and feeling like I had never heard anything like it before.

From that moment on, Tupac was cemented as one of my favorite artists. Today, we remember his music and his movies as he was destined to really start taking over the silver screen with movies like Above the Rim and Juice.
