Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D will be out in full force tonight (May 19) conducting another DWI/sobriety checkpoint in less than a week in Calcasieu Parish, from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location. Their mission “to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they cause injury or death to themselves or others" continues, as they protect the streets and roads of SWLA.

In 2015, 64 percent of fatal crashes investigated by Troop D involved an impaired driver. Alcohol consumption affects judgement as well as the skills needed to drive safely.

You should always designate a sober driver before going where alcohol will be consumed. When you drive impaired you are putting your life and someone else's in danger, so do what's right and don't drink and drive or be under the influence of any substance.

If you suspect someone of impaired driving, you are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular device, or simply contact a local law enforcement agency.
