The Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D will conduct a sobriety and seat belt checkpoint at an undisclosed location within Calcasieu Parish on Friday, August 23, between 8:00 pm and 2:00 am.

According to a media release, thanks to the support of the Louisiana Highway Commission, LSP is continuing their effort to combat impaired driving in Southwest Louisiana with a mission to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others. They will also check vehicles for unrestrained motorists and occupants in an effort to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities caused by not wearing a seat belt, said LSP.

If you suspect someone of impaired driving, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular device or dial 911 to contact local law enforcement.

Motorists are encouraged to designate a sober driver and buckle up.
