The Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D plans to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, December 2, 2016, "weather permitting,” from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within Calcasieu Parish. Their mission is “to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they cause injury or death to themselves or others,” said a LSP press release.

Last year, 64 percent of fatal crashes investigated by Troop D involved an impaired driver. Alcohol consumption affects judgement as well as the skills needed to drive safely.

Motorists are not only encouraged not to drink and drive, but also to designate a sober driver before going somewhere where alcohol will be consumed. Be smart save a life, and maybe ever your own, don’t drink and drive.

If you suspect someone of impaired driving, you are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular device, or simply contact your local law enforcement agency..
