Why a Beloved Louisiana Hot Dog Brand is Being Discontinued
Louisianaians, and really Southerners as a whole, are serious when it comes to their favorite foods. Change is not well received when a favorite, go-to food item is altered in any way and most certainly when it's discontinued. Clearly, that rings true concerning the apparent discontinuation of the popular Bryan Wiener Hot Dogs
The Tysons Foods-owned hot dog brand is popular nationwide and has become a Southern classic because of price, quantity, and taste. At $1.59 a 12-pack, Bryan Hot Dogs are an inexpensive choice for families to feed a group of people. Whether it be to chow down at a cookout or feed a house full of kids at a birthday party. Bryan Hot Dogs has always been that go-to brand.
In August, rumors started to surface that brand was coming off shelves. The first sign the popular brand was going to be discontinued in Louisiana came when Rouses Markets posted a "final call for Bryan Hot Dogs" on their Facebook page.
Given the more than 630 comments and shares, a whole lot of people weren't happy that the hot dog brand was no longer going to be available. Again, that's just here in the South. However, the Bryan Hot Dog brand is well-liked across the country, and sells more than 150 million dogs every 4th of July!
What's Going On With Bryan Hot Dogs?
That is the fifty-million-dollar question. News of the popular hot dog brand being discontinued from the shelves at major supermarkets in Louisiana has been spreading like wildfire that's for sure via various websites and social media platforms. Most recently, on November 1, 2024, it became evident that this isn't just happening in Louisiana. Southern supermarket Piggly Wiggly announced a "Last call on Bryan Hot Dog" in the Facebook post below:
Things To Do Gulf States even posted the case of the disappearing Bryan Hot Dog in other states including Mississippi on its Facebook page. This is not good. Hopefully, Tyson Foods will consider how much people like this brand and will take measures to keep these hot dogs in stores.
Market Supervisor of Chandlers SuperValu Breaks The News To Customers
While we all wait for Tyson Foods to make an official announcement on whether they are or aren't discontinuing the famous red weenie, folks are freaking out. The weenie hysteria even prompted the SuperValu Market Supervisor of Chandlers, Justin Allred to release a statement acknowledging he was told the red dogs were going away, but assured customers that he ordered as much as he could to keep shelves at his market locations full even for a little while. He wrote on Facebook:
As of 10/1/2024 unfortunately Bryan hotdogs will be discontinued by Tyson Foods, SuperValu Ackerman and SuperValu Eupora acquired approximately 850 cases to sell over the course of the next couple of months and when they are gone.. they are gone.. be sure to stop in and fill your deep freezers as we say good bye to Mississippi’s favorite hotdog.
Well, people all I can see is the ball is in Tyson Foods' court. Will popular demand be enough for the beloved Bryan Hot Dog brand to survive? We shall see. In the meantime, if you're a red-lovin weenie fan, you might want to stock up wherever they are sold and don't leave anything to chance.
