If you are a Calcasieu Parish homeowner or a tenant that suffered damage from the Louisiana Severe Storms, Tornados and Flooding 4606-DR-LA in May 2021, you may still be eligible for FEMA assistance. However, the deadline to apply is today, August 2. For the latest info on severe storms, tornadoes and flooding visit fema.gov/disaster/4606. Follow FEMA Region 6 Twitter at twitter.com/FEMARegion6. By law, FEMA can't duplicate claims for benefits. So, if you already have homeowners' or renter's insurance, file a claim with your provider immediately. If your policy didn't cover all the damages and expenses, you may be eligible for help from FEMA. Time is of the essence and the quickest way to apply for assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov/.

Have the following info readily available:

  • A good phone number
  • The address where the damage occurred and the address where you are currently staying
  • Your Social Security number
  • List of damages
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

The FEMA customer service hotline is open 7-days a week from 8a to 8p, to register by phone at (800) 621-3362 (TTY: (800) 462-7585). Relay service users of videophone, Innocaption, or CapTel need to update FEMA with the specific number assigned to that service. FEMA recommends storm victims take photos to document damage, then begin the cleanup and repairs to prevent further damage.

Remember to keep all receipts from all purchases related to the cleanup and repairs. Financial benefits for temporary housing or home repairs may also be available with FEMA Disaster assistance

The SBA is also offering low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, and businesses of any size, including nonprofits. The SBA, much like FEMA can not grant duplicate benefits for damages that are already covered by insurance. * Homeowners: Can borrow up to $200,000 to repair or replace their primary residence. * Homeowners and renters can borrow up to $40,000 to replace personal property, including vehicles.

Whether there was property damage or not, small businesses, aquaculture, and most nonprofits can apply for up to $2 million max in Disaster Assistance for working capital needs. Businesses and residents can apply online at sba.gov. For more info call 800-659-2955 or email FOCWAssistance@sba.gov. If you need help filling out the loan app, apply online.
