Today in Tha Wire, we've all been told or at least heard the saying, "Nothing worth having comes easy." Right? Now the joke is on the idiots who tried to job shame a former Cosby Show actor, Geoffrey Owens, best known for his role as Sondra's husband, Elvin.

The Huffington Post reports that a shopper, Karma Lawrence, spotted the actor working a cash register at a Trader Joe’s grocery store in Clifton, New Jersey. Recognizing the former Cosby Show star, she took a picture of him, supposedly out of pity. Lawrence told the Daily Mail she felt sorry for him because after acting for years on the iconic show, he wound up "being a cashier." Somehow, working a "regular" job was newsworthy enough for FOX News to pick up.

The network then joined the Daily Mail and proceeded to job shame the actor. Next thing Owens knew, his photos were all over the internet, and the embarrassing story went viral. Sadly, all the unwanted attention led to the actor quitting his job. It's really sad because the man was just trying to make ends meet. And don't get it twisted. He wasn't hiding; he was living. Owens had reportedly been working at Trader Joe's for about 15 months before all this happened.

HipHollywood reports most folks in the area knew he worked at the store and his job status didn't matter to them. If anything, the way FOX and the Daily Mail made fun of Owens is shameful! However, the good news is that all their job shaming turned out to be a huge blessing for Geoffrey Owens. Hundreds of people he didn't even know, including fellow celebs, came to former Cosby star's aid. Viewers let both networks know they were disgusted by the way they made fun of the actor. After all, it's very common for actors/artists to have several odd jobs between gigs. They gotta eat, too! Professional athlete turned actor,
Terry Crews, knows all about having to work extra jobs to make ends meet. He tweeted:

The shame game backfired big time! Owens not only got an overwhelming amount of support, but
GMA gave him an opportunity to respond to the idiots laughing about him having a "normal" job. The 57-year-old appeared on the morning show Tuesday, sportin' his Trader Joe's name tag, and with fantastic composure, he gave his thoughts. See the interview below:

By the way, Owens is still acting. He's appeared in a variety of small roles in recent years on TV dramas like The Affair. From time to time, he also teaches at Yale. HotNewHipHop reported that Tuesday, September 4, 2018 proved to be a big day for the actor because Tyler Perry caught wind of his story and offered him a job! Like Crews, Perry knows what it is to work hard and be determined to make it. Tyler has shared his life story on many occasions. He beat the odds of abuse and homelessness, and is living his dreams today.

Owens had a humble response, saying:

“I don’t expect to be offered things,” he continued. “It would be lovely as one of the results of this, some doors open in terms of giving me the opportunity to audition. That, I would appreciate — always, as all actors do. I don’t necessarily feel comfortable being given things as a result of this.

He ain't no fool, either! He quickly added, “I like the idea of, you know, put me in the room with everyone else and see if I’m the right one for the job.” Well said, Geoffrey! Now stop playing and go get that J.O.B., playa.
