Wheels of Hope – Benefit for St. Nicholas Center for Children
This Saturday, October 7, 2017, come ride for a wonderful cause at the Wheels of Hope charity bike ride. All proceeds benefit the St. Nicholas Center for Children in Lake Charles, and the vital programs they have to help kids in Calcasieu Parish. Each rider will receive a rider bag, a long-sleeved t-shirt, and a few other goodies. The giveaways will be limited to the first 500 people to sign up.
Participants can register the day of the event, from 6:30 - 7:45 a.m. This onsite area is also where packets and t-shirt pickups will be located. If you wish to register ahead of time, just go to www.bikereg.com. This is highly recommended, because the entry fee will go up an extra $5 the day of the ride.
The bike ride starts at 8:00 a.m. from St. Theodore Holy Family Catholic School, located at 785 Sam Houston Jones Parkway, in Moss Bluff. The "Taste of Louisiana", featuring some of the best creole cookin' in the state, will be served up from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The menu includes delicious Louisiana cuisine like jambalaya, chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, grilled duck breasts wrapped in bacon, boudin, fried shrimp, venison wrapped in bacon, turtle sauce piquant, and more!
There are actually five outstanding routes! So, depending on how fit you are, and how far you want to go, there's a ride for everyone. The 5 and 10 mile family rides are ideal for adults and kids young and old. This ride will have a dedicated bike lane for bikers to observe the natural beauty of Sam Houston Jones State Park. This route has several rest stops inside the park, just in case you need to make a pit stop. If you want more excitement, you can always veer off the path and take 1 of 3 hiking trails to explore nature up close.
When you're done, head back to where you started, at Holy Family Catholic School. For the more experienced riders looking for a challenge, there are 25 and 75 mile routes. These rides will travel around the West Fork of the Calcasieu River! See a map of each bike route here.
Don't forget to stick around after the ride, and enjoy the wonderful food at a "Taste of Louisiana." We hope to see you there.Les se le
