Will Smith and Lennox Lewis to Serve as Pallbearers at Muhammad Ali’s Funeral
Actor/rapper Will Smith and former boxer Lennox Lewis will be among eight pallbearers at Muhammad Ali's funeral on Friday. The services in Ali's hometown of Louisville, Ky. will include both a private burial and public memorial at the KFC Yum! Center.
Smith portrayed the "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" boxer in director Michael Mann's 2001 biopic, "Ali." Meanwhile, Lewis was both a former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist -- just like Ali.
The legendary athlete and social activist died Friday night (June 3) in Scottsdale, Ariz. at the age of 74. Ali suffered from Parkinson's disease and died due to septic shock. He was initially hospitalized on May 30 and passed away four days later.
The memorial, open to the general public, is at 2 p.m. ET, and 15,000 tickets are available. Tickets will be available for purchase starting Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
A mix of family and close friends will make up the other six pallbearers. Stay locked to XXL for more news regarding the funeral, and check out the gallery below to see how hip-hop reacted to Ali's death.
Ali retired from boxing in 1981 with a record of 56-5. He is remembered just as much (if not more) for his actions outside the ring as he is for his incredible feats inside the ring. Ali's fame was larger than life during an era without the Internet and social media. His combination of boxing dominance, charisma and dedication to fighting for his own beliefs makes him the GOAT in many peoples' eyes.
