Colin Kaepernick Appears to Address Jay-Z’s “Passed Kneeling” Comments
Jay-Z's new partnership with the NFL has everyone talking. Now, it appears Colin Kaepernick is addressing Hov's alignment with the league.
On Sunday (Aug. 18), Colin posted on Instagram in support of current NFL players who are still kneeling during the National Anthem. In the caption, he appeared to reference Jigga's recent comments during a meeting with NFL execs that he's "passed kneeling," the symbolic act Kaepernick took that ultimately got him blackballed from the league. The photo shows the players kneeling in protest during a recent pre-season game.
"My Brothers @e_reid35 @kstills @ithinkisee12 continue to fight for the people, even in the face of death threats," Kaepernick wrote. "They have never moved past the people and continue to put their beliefs into action. Stay strong Brothers!!! ✊🏾"
Jay's "passed kneeling" comments Colin appears to be addressing were not blank statements. "I think it's time to go to actionable items," Jay added at the meeting. "I don't want people to stop protesting at all. Kneeling—I know we're stuck on it 'cause it's a real thing—it's a form of protest. I support protesting across the board."
Jay-Z's connection with the NFL has been a polarizing one. Last week, it was revealed he signed on to handle the role of live music entertainment strategist. Reports also surfaced that he has serious interest in co-owning an NFL team. This after he was against the NFL last year for their treatment of Kaepernick. Some see Jay's dealings as a sell-out move. He's been called out Kaepernick's girlfriend and current NFL player Eric Reid. Others like Cardi B think Jay can make the changes that need to be made.
