Chi-Town lyricist Common is set to make his return to music with his 10th album, Nobody’s Smilin. In a recent interview with Revolt TV Common revealed his new project will be out before the end of the year.  It’s been a longtime coming too, because this will be the rapper/actor’s first studio project since his 2011 The Dreamer/The Believer.

Common said of his new album,  “I gotta say 2014 is going to be one of my greatest times in music. I feel excited about the project that I’m working on.”  Originally I was making an EP, but we’ve just been making a lot of songs.”

Meanwhile, the veteran emcee said the concept for his new LP is based on trying to end the ongoing violence consuming his hometown and inner cities across the world. Common explained, "Nobody’s Smiling’ was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago”  We were talking about the conditions of what’s happening when I said ‘Nobody’s Smiling,’ but it’s really a call to action.”

Though his new album is definitely a ‘call to action’, Common had props to hand out to the new crop of rising rappers from his hometown.   Find out what he had to say below inside Tha Wire.
