DaBaby Arrest Sparks Internal Investigation Of Police Department
Rap superstar, DaBaby, Christmas homecoming didn't go as he planned last week. The North Carolina breed MC was arrested after performing in his hometown at the Bojangles Arena in Charlotte. VIBE reports the rapper whose real name is, Jonathan Kirk, was approached by Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers about marijuana in his vehicle.
The CMPD said in a official statement last week, their “Officers approached the white Dodge Charger and indicated they observed marijuana in plain view inside the Dodge Charger while utilizing their flashlights.” DaBaby's management shot those accusations down and accused the officers of conducting an illegal search after receiving false info of guns and drugs in his car.
Well now comes word the arresting officers are under investigation by their own department. The CMPD announced they launched an Internal Affairs investigation to look into the matter and determine if officers followed department policies and directives during the incident. According the arresting officers, they tried to speak with the "BOP" rapper after he left the arena, but he refused. Shortly after his release, DaBaby told NBC's WCNC that the police unlawfully searched his car.
