The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is joining in on the national crackdown on drunk driving, beginning August 19 thru the Labor Day weekend.

With funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign begins to “curb impaired driving and save lives.”  Expect an increase in checkpoints throughout the parish, as well as an "increased presence of officers on the road” out to catch drunk drivers.

“Research has shown that high-visibility enforcement like ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign reduces drunk driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent. By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Calcasieu Parish roadways safer for everyone,” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign begins August 19 and ends September 5, and is a partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
