Ladies it's important to know how to protect yourself and use a gun properly.  As women we hope the time will never come, when we have to use self defense moves or have to shoot someone.  However, if the situation ever arises we'd have a better chance at survival, if you knew what to do.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) has announced they will host a, “SAFE & SECURE: A Ladies Firearm Safety and Self-Defense Workshop,” on Saturday, May 2, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  This event is absolutely free and will take place at the CPSO Training Academy, located at 3958 Mallard Cove Dr. in Lake Charles.  The workshop will be taught by CPSO deputies, certified self-defense instructors and is open to all women in the parish 18 years and older.

The firearm safety class will cover things like, learning gun laws as they pertain to carrying a concealed weapon and using a gun for protection.   Ladies will learn about the different types of handguns available, get safety tips on having a gun in the home or car and much more.  Each lady will get a chance to fire their weapons on the shooting range as well.
If you have a handgun and bullets, bring them as you'll get a chance to shoot on the range.  In the name of safety, bring ear plugs, safety glasses and have your gun inside it's carrying case or inside a holster.  If you don't own a gun, the Sheriff’s department will provide some revolvers that can be used.
Wear comfortable cloths and shoes too.  Remember this is a self-defense workshop. You will be given hands-on instruction in women’s self defense techniques, as well as information on prevention of sexual assault, home safety and personal safety.
To participate, you must pre-register to attend “SAFE & SECURE: A Ladies Firearm Safety and Self-Defense Workshop” by calling the Sheriff’s Office at 491-3850.  Ladies can attend one class or both, but keep in mind class sizes are limited.
