Calling all students, the Lake Charles community, and surrounding areas let's join together and take a united stand against bullying. This weekend the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is hosting its annual Anti-Bullying Walk. Make plans to attend and bring a friend or two this Saturday, Oct. 1 to the Civic Center Amphitheater (900 Lakeshore Drive) from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory says that bullying a lot of times is the root cause of serious problems like school shootings and suicide. Joining together as a community and standing against bullying is a great way to bring awareness to this issue. It is also a way to demonstrate that bullying is unacceptable at any time or any place.

This is a free walk and the entire public is invited to come out and show support. By the way, the first 100 students to attend the walk will get a free t-shirt! Special guests will include city officials and representatives from the Louisiana Youth for Excellence Program.

Let's stop bullying in its tracks. When adults respond quickly and consistently to bullying behavior they send the message that it is not acceptable. Research shows that parents, school staff, and other adults in the community can help kids prevent bullying by talking about it. It is important that adults respond to bullying quickly and send a message that it is not okay. Students can let friends know that it's not cool or report an incident to a teacher if they see bullying happening at school. We can do something. For information go to stopbullying.gov. See you at the walk!
