KPLC-7 reports the Lake Charles City Council voted six to one to postpone going forward with opening all Lake Charles businesses at Wednesday night’s meeting. Because COVID-19 cases in the state surpassed 100,000, Governor John Bel Edwards renewed the Phase Two mandate through August 28. At least one city council member disagrees with the restrictions and seems to think it’s safe enough to move Lake Charles to Phase Three now.

Councilman John Ieyoub sponsored a resolution request on the agenda, but City Council President Stuart Weatherford entered a motion to defer the item due to Gov. Edwards decision to hold steady. They put Ieyoub’s request to a vote, and apparently no one else agrees with the councilman’s idea to reopen all city businesses at this time.
