Lake Charles Memorial Giving Away Free Colon Cancer Test Kits
Colorectal Cancer is a silent killer because it can go undetected with little to no symptoms. The good news is that when caught early, this is a curable and treatable disease. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Lake Charles Memorial Health System wants SWLA residents to understand the importance of getting tested.
KPLC reports Memorial is giving away free test kits from 9 am to 3 pm every day this through Friday, March 17, to anyone who stops by with insurance or no insurance. Pick one up at the Radiation Oncology Center around the back of the hospital. They are accessible to anyone who wants one. A simple screening can provide early detection and save your life or that of a loved one.
Colon Cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Louisiana and the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. It is also the third most common type of cancer in the nation.
Let's change those stats! This is a curable disease if it is diagnosed early. Hospitals in the area are urging everyone 45 years and up or with a family history of the disease to get screened. This is especially important because currently, only 38% of new colorectal cancers are diagnosed early.
Pick up a free screening kit for colorectal cancer now, through Friday, March 17, at Lake Charles Memorial Health from 9 am to 3 pm. Just stop by and grab one at the Radiation Oncology Center around the back of the hospital. Dr. Karla David, the director of Radiation Oncology, says, “Colorectal cancer is very treatable when caught early, so the earliest you catch it, the better.”
