Man Robs Bank For $1 To Get Prison Healthcare [VIDEO]
Last week, James Verone walked into an RBC bank –sans gun – with a robbery plan. However, unlike most bank robbers, his plan did not involve walking out with loads of cash.
Instead, the 59-year-old North Carolina man actually wanted to be arrested so he’d have access to prison healthcare provided by the government.
In an MSNBC interview, Verone says he wrote a note that said, “This is a bank robbery. Please only give me one dollar.” He handed the note to the teller, collected his $1 and then walked to the seating area in the bank to wait for police to arrive.
“I wanted to make it known that it wasn’t done for a monetary value, it was done for medical reasons,” he tells MSNBC.
Verone says he’s battling various medical problems, including a growth on his chest, two ruptured discs and a foot ailment. He hopes he’ll be sentenced to prison for three years so that once he’s released, he can collect Social Security.
