Neighborhood Watch “Get To Know Your Neighbor Meet & Greet” Is A Huge Success [VIDEO]
Tuesday's "Meet & Greet" had a big turn-out. Concerned citizens throughout the city came out to learn more about how they can keep their neighborhoods safe.
Tuesday's "Meet & Greet" was just that. It was an opportunity to see and meet the people behind the Neighborhood Watch in Oak Park and encourage other surrounding community to do the same. In fact, citizens from as far as Lucille Street (by the mall) came and now in the process of starting a Neighborhood Watch in their area. Below is video of District 4 Police Jury Tony Guillory and Lake Charles D.A. John DeRosier speaking on why Neighborhood Watch groups are so important.
Special thanks to the cooks, the BQ was delicious! Also to everyone that came out to the "Meet & Greet," we thank you. However, we urge you all to come back for the monthly meetings. That's where we get down to business, in fact bring a note pad and a pen. The Neighborhood Watch meetings are very informational.
Neighbors share information on various crime their experiencing, strange vehicles driving in and out of neighborhood with no destination in particular or people on foot or riding bikes wondering about. The authorities are at every meeting and various city leaders (D.A., mayor, judges, lawyers etc.) are always stopping by to give useful info on what your rights are and what you can do as a property owner to protect yourself and property within the law.
Each meeting we leave armed with the newest types of crimes accruing in our community and what times they're taking place. For example, authorities warned us to keep an eye out for juveniles (male & female) traveling through our neighborhood on foot/bikes during school hours. Tips like this help us stay alert and pay attention to whats going on. That's what the Neighborhood Watch meetings are all about.
So come out, encourage your family and friends to do the same. Together we can make this a safer city to live in and raise our children. The meetings are the 2nd Tuesday every month at 5:30 pm at the Bellard Recreation Center (formally Hillcrest Community Center)
