Last night was an experience that, until then, I would have not thought would have happened here in Lake Charles. Last week was my very first time meeting Huber Mickey Smith, who's not only a teacher at Maplewood Middle School, but a two-time grammy nominated music educator.

Well, last night was his annual "Sax In The City" event, where he debuted new music from an upcoming album and featured a plethora of artists, including singer Jarvis Jacobs, Saxophonist Marcus Davis, and so many other great artist including his wife, who has a great voice. There was a great cause behind it as well, as he takes all of the proceeds from this once-a-year event and donates the money Music Makers 2 U to help in buying instruments for kids in Southwest Louisiana who have a desire to be musicians and have a love for great music and instrumentation.

If you missed last night, you definitely missed out on a treat, and should make all plans to be there next year. It's not only a great cause, but a wonderful night as well, and there are so many opportunities to help out a child who may not even know what they want to do in life. But music could be just the machine they need in order to make things happen in their lives. Make sure to check out his website as well to get more information on how you can help, and to find out where he will be playing next.
