UPDATE: Back-To-School Giveaways & Assistance In SWLA

Here's an updated list of Back-to-School giveaways and assistance being offered in the area to parents/guardians and students in need.

The following information has been updated to include new locations, dates and times of various back-to-school events in and around Calcasieu Parish.

 19th Annual Axiall Back to School Bash

When: Aug. 2nd from 10am to 2pm

• Where: Pryce Miller Recreation Center
• 216 Albert Street, Lake Charles
• All area wide students are invited. Backpacks and school supplies will be given out while supplies last.
• A fun day for the entire family- lunch will be provided, games, face painting, space walk, information & education and door prizes.
• An adult must accompany all children.

BeauCare

• Application process for students in Beauregard parish.  Get application at office at 628 High School Drive in DeRidder.

Boulevard Baptist Church

• 3007 Enterprise Boulevard at the Mission Center in Lake Charles

• July 24th from 3 to 7 pm
• Look for the blue double doors on the Craft Street side of the church
• School uniforms will be given away

Care Help of Sulphur

• The program provides assistance with school uniforms, basic supplies and shoes for low-income Sulphur residents.

• Application days are Wednesday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursday, July. 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sulphur First Baptist Church gym at 517 S. Huntington St.

Christian Baptist Church (South Campus) School Supply  and Uniform Give Away

• 4460 Fifth Avenue in Lake Charles
• When:  Saturday, August 9th at 7:00 pm.
• An adult must accompany all children.
• They will have school supplies and gently used school uniforms while supplies last.

The Dwelling Place Church

• 1800 East College Street, Lake Charles.
• Saturday, August 9th at 9 am
• 1,000 backpacks with school supplies being given out to children in PreK – 5th grade while supplies last.

• We have supplies for children in special education in need…parents must attend a workshop and show a current IEP to be eligible.

 Salvation Army

• Taking applications for families whose children need school supplies.
• Please call ahead at 337-433-4155 for eligibility information.

Warren United Methodist Church

• Date change-Saturday, August 9^th from 10am to 1pm.  
• They will have school supplies while supplies last.  Bring ID.
• An adult must accompany all children.
