Weezy Wins Lawsuit Against Cash Money And Universal Music – Tha Wire
Today in Tha Wire Rolling Stone reports Lil Wayne legal beef against Bryan "Birdman" Williams, Cash Money Records, and Universal Music Group, has officially come to an end. Weezy's attorney Ron Sweeney, of Sweeney, Johnson & Sweeney LLC, confirmed the news Thursday (June 7.) From the sound of things the longstanding feud over breach of contracts, millions of dollars in withheld royalties, and refusal to drop Tha Carter V, will ultimately be settled out of court.
The Blast reports court docs state Wayne's case was being litigated by, Howard King, whom filed a notice to dismiss the lawsuit on May 23rd. Though the exact amount has not been disclosed, the Young Money legend will allegedly walk with an eight-figure payout! Will it be close to the $51 million he was suing for? On that subject...Billboard sat down with Wayne's attorney and he told them, "Per our settlement agreement, the matter has been amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved." Careful not to give up to much, the lawyer said, "In terms of the particulars, we're prohibited legally from saying anything further." He continued. "I can say that my client is happy. He is his own man, a man that owns his assets, his music and himself. At some point, Wayne will let his fans know what's going to happen next."
Hiphollywood reports the interesting thing about this whole settlement is the fact that, Birdman, won't be writing the check! Matter of fact the Cash Money CEO won't be paying a dime! Universal is footing the BIG check. They're cool wit it too. Label higher-ups, say it's all good because they'll get their money back through investments in other artists like Drake and Nicki Minaj. That would be correct, which is why it's said that it took them soooo long to pay Wayne. This could've been over!
Congrats to Lil Tunechi on the win, we'll be lookin for Tha Carter V! By the way, word has it he and Birdman are working on mending their relationship. If that's the case, that's a good thing. For all the entertainment news, listen to Tha Wire and stay in the know on The People's Station 107 Jamz.
