Abbeville Man Crashes Stolen Bus into Building in Lake Charles
This guy didn't just steal one bus, he stole two in one day. Maybe he watched one too many episodes of The Magic School Bus? Maybe he caught a Speed marathon and thought he was Keanu Reeves? Lucky for residents his antics landed him in jail.
According to a media release, on Saturday, August 18, at 12:08 am, officers with the Lake Charles Police Department responded to a hit and run in a trailer park in the 2900 block of Broad Street. Witnesses told officers "an unknown white male in a Hotard bus struck a few trailers and a utility pole". The bus was reportedly stolen from the Vinton area.
After the suspect fled on foot, he later stole a second bus, a plant workers transport bus, from Chenault. He was spotted by patrol officers at Broad Street and Pamco Road but refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit where he lost control at West Prien Lake Road and Hollyhill Road, striking a building.
Todd Gregory Bonamo, 40, of Abbeville, La., was arrested and charged with aggravated flight from an officer; and illegal possession of stolen things. A bond has yet to be set, as he could face additional charges.
