In June Misty Copeland became the first African-American female principal dancer in the American Ballet Theater's (ABT) 75-year history!  With a story made for the movies, the beautiful and talented ballerina predicted her prestigious future and told HipHollywood, "To be able to stand alone and hold an entire ballet on my shoulders as a Black women at the Metropolitan Opera House that’s my goal.”

Well she proved if you want it bad enough and work hard enough, dreams really do come true. Copeland said typically dancers with her “body type, pedigree and background” don't make it to the top in the professional world of dance, much less go on the lead one of the top three Ballet companies in the nation.  The amazing dancer made it to the top along with six others as announced by the ABT’s artistic director, Kevin McKenzie released this statement.

“Seven amazing dancers from American Ballet Theatre were promoted today. Each has demonstrated the talent and hard work needed to succeed in a highly competitive environment. I couldn’t be prouder.”

Now her story is coming to select theaters in October, to give upcoming dancers motivation and inspiration on their journey to the top of the world of dance.  HipHollywood reports Copeland has been with ABT for 14 years, eight of which were as a soloist, so this promotion is well deserved. Below check out the trailer of Misty’s upcoming documentary, A Ballerina’s Tale.

In the upcoming film Copeland stands as a testament that your surroundings don't dictate how your life will turnout, you do.  If you dream it, think it, you can achieve it.  Copeland revealed, “I first discovered ballet at 13, I had no prior training, I had no prior experience, I had no exposure to it,” she continued “There aren’t any professional ballet companies or schools where I come from, San Pedro CA.”

Named one of Times 100 Most Influential People in the World, Misty Copeland's story is to special to miss.  Go see, A Ballerina’s Taleset to hit select theaters and Video On Demand on October 14.
