Johnny Depp Attacks Crew Member on Set of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur Thriller ‘LAbyrinth’
Filming on the set of the upcoming movie LAbyrinth—which follows the investigation of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur murders—got off to a rough start after actor Johnny Depp reportedly attacked a member of the film crew.
According to a May 7 report from Page Six, Depp, who plays LAPD detective Russell Poole, attempted to throw a punch at a location manager and challenged him to hit him for money. "I'll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!" the actor reportedly said.
Sources close to the situation say trouble on the set began when Depp started directing a scene and hired two of his friends as actors. “Johnny’s friends were in the scene, and it just turned into way more than it should have been,” the source said.
After the location manager told the actor they needed to wrap the scene and it was to be the last shot, an allegedly drunk Depp got in the location manager's face. "Who are you? You have no right!" he reportedly yelled.
Neither Depp or his team have commented on the incident, but director Brad Furman called it overblown. “Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists,” the director said. “He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories—there isn’t one here.”
Based on the book of the same name, LAbyrinth follows detective Russell Poole, who fails to solve the murder cases of Biggie and Tupac. Nearly two decades after their death, Poole teams up with a journalist to discover the truth.
The real Poole passed away in 2015. The detective was known for his many theories surrounding the cases, including believing that the two murders were related and claiming that Biggie's murder involved a conspiracy between an LAPD detective and Suge Knight.
