Lake Charles Nightclub Shooting: 25-Year-Old Victim Identified, Suspect Arrested

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a deadly shooting that took place over the weekend at the popular local nightclub, Cowboys on Common Street in Lake Charles.

According to CPSO spokeswoman Kayla Vincent, the victim was Javin M. Augustus, 25, of Lake Charles. Shortly after being struck by gunfire, Augustus was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Vincent reports Augustus occurred around 5 am on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Following a brief investigation, authorities arrested 34-year-old Fabian D. Charles of Port Arthur, TX. He is accused of shooting the victim in the parking lot of the Lake Charles nightclub. KPLC News reports, that the Texas native fired shots during a verbal altercation, that quickly escalated into a physical fistfight.

Charles was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Facility and faces multiple charges, including Second-degree murder, Illegal use of a weapon during a crime of violence,
In obstruction of justice, Judge Hope Buford set Charles’ bond at $1.7 million.

Though the investigation is ongoing, so far Charles has been charged with Second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons by discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and Obstruction of justice. If convicted Charles may spend the rest of his life in prison. Second-degree murder under Louisiana law carries a sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
