Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were called out to LaGrange High School in Lake Charles on Friday, June 7, in regards to a teen with a gun in his backpack.

According to a media release from Kim Myers, the School Resource Officer told deputies a loaded handgun was located in a 15-year-old’s backpack. The student brought the gun to school, then took it out of his backpack where another student in the classroom saw it before he put it back in his backpack. A student in the classroom then reported it to the School Resource Officer, said Myers.

The teen was arrested and charged with the illegal carrying of a weapon; illegal carrying of a firearm in a gun-free zone; and aggravated assault.  He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
