Local Woman Arrested for Principal to 1st-Degree Rape
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrested registered sex offender, Jeremy K. Laird, 41, of Lake Charles on August 13, after learning he had inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. Laird was convicted in 1999 for carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Detectives learned from the victim that "the incident happened on two separate occasions in 2017". Laird was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 1st-degree rape; and sexual battery. Laird's bond is set at $200,000.
Sarah J. Laird, 35, of Westlake, who was Jeremy Laird's girlfriend when the incidents occurred, knew about the inappropriate sexual contact but didn't report the incidents to law enforcement.
The couple was indicted on Thursday, October 4, by a grand jury. On the same day, following a warrant for her arrest, Sarah was arrested and booked into C.C.C. and charged with principal to 1st-degree rape. Her bond is set at $300,000.
