Lake Charles, La. — For the second year in a row the city council has declared Lock Park a “Family Friendly Zone.”

The resolution from the Feb. 1 meeting also “requests” the Lake Charles Police Department to enforce provisions in the ordinance that prohibit the possession, consumption and/or sale of alcoholic beverages in parks within the city. Parking within the grounds of Lock Park is also prohibited during the 2017 Mardi Gras parades and activities.

“It’s important for us to reemphasize our City’s commitment to making the celebration of Mardi Gras a family friendly event,” said Mayor Randy Roach. “We want everyone to enjoy the City parks during Mardi Gras, and we will do our part to ensure that Lock Park and the other City parks provide a safe, fun atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.”
