As the holidays approach, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department will do their part in continuing to keep citizens safe from impaired drivers. A DWI checkpoint will be conducted an an undisclosed locations in the parish on Saturday, December 21, said a media release.

According Kayla Vincet (CPSO), this checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. In the past, these checkpoints have proven effective in "discouraging impaired driving" making people "more likely to designate a drive when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted".

This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
