Just in time for the holiday season, Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D will conduct a DWI/sobriety checkpoint on Friday, November 17, 2017, from about 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish. Their mission is “to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they cause injury or death to themselves or others,” said a LSP press release.

In 2015, 64 percent of fatal crashes investigated by Troop D involved an impaired driver. Alcohol consumption affects judgement as well as the skills needed to drive safely.

LSP encourages motorist to plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before going where alcohol will be consumed. Be smart and save a life as well as your own. Don’t drive under the influence of any substance, or there can be deadly consequences.

If you suspect someone of impaired driving, you are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular device or contact a local law enforcement agency.
