The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office has received a grant for $46,650 from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to conduct more traffic safety enforcement in the parish.

So what is the grant for exactly? It will allow CPSO to conduct "additional traffic safety enforcement activities throughout the year to reduce traffic crashes and the resulting serious injuries and fatalities", said a media release. Off Duty deputies will be assigned to roads where they will "enforce traffic laws that pertain to seatbelts, drinking and driving, underage drinking and driving, and speeding." That's right, expect more checkpoints throughout the parish as well.

“We are very pleased to receive this grant which will allow us to have more patrol deputies on the road enforcing traffic laws that will help to keep our citizens safe,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso. “Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce fatalities by as much as 20 percent. We will be looking for, and arresting or ticketing, those violators that make it dangerous for the law-abiding drivers.”

Throughout the year CPSO participates in nationwide enforcement campaigns like “Click It or Ticket”, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”, and “Buckle Up In Your Truck," that all run through September 30, 2018.
