The Weekend Gets Off With No Jail Time After Punching A Cop – Tha Wire
According to TMZ, R&B singer The Weekend lucked up by not having to do any time for punching a cop earlier this year. The Canadian crooner got himself arrested in January at the Las Vegas Cromwell Hotel. Law enforcement sources said a fight broke out between the singer and another man at four in the morning. When they arrived, TMZ reports they were still fighting.
In an effort to break it up a cop grabbed the singer, pulled him into an elevator and during the struggle The Weeknd punched the cop in the head. Don't think it was intentional, but still... Weekend was arrested and hauled off to jail.
The whole shenanigans is almost behind him, TMZ reports the singer plead no contest in a Vegas courtroom this week. Instead of doing time, Weeknd was ordered to give $1,000 to an injured cop fund, complete anger management, get an alcohol evaluation, and do 50 hours of community service.
On the bright side though, he'll get to do it at a non-profit organization in his native Canada. If he can manage to stay outta trouble, he can get the case dismissed.
Finally, Entertainment Weekly reports Empire creator/executive producer Lee Daniels has another series coming to FOX. It's a music drama pilot called Star and production begins this December in Atlanta. Between now and then he's hoping to put the cast together by launching an international casting search for the show’s four main roles.
