Lake Charles, La. -- At about 11:30 p.m. on July 17, deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) were dispatched to check on an alarm at a local pharmacy on Country Club Road.

After watching surveillance video, detectives learned a man broke into the business through a window. Once he gained entry he stole prescription medication. While breaking in the man cut himself on the window, leaving behind DNA at the scene.

After further investigation, detectives submitted the DNA to the Southwest Louisiana Crime Lab for processing, where the lab submitted the sample into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). A match came up for 20-year-old Brendan J. Giles, of 145 Victoria Drive, Lake Charles. A judge issued a warrant for $62,000 for his arrest. Giles was reportedly located the same day at his home, then arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He has been charge with theft under $750, simple burglary of a pharmacy, and simple criminal damage to property, said a CPSO press release.
