Two Juveniles Injured in Auto-Pedestrian Crash
Two juveniles were transported to a local hospital on Monday following an auto-pedestrian crash in the 3400 block of 5th Avenue, on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. The Lake Charles Police Department reportedly responded to the crash at approximately 6:20 a.m., said a media release.
Officers learned a group of juveniles was "walking northbound on 5th Avenue near College Street, with two of the juveniles in the roadway portion of the northbound inside lane of travel, walking with traffic. A 2002 Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound on 5th Avenue and struck the two juveniles that were walking in the roadway. At this time a 2002 Toyota Highlander, which was also north bound on 5th Avenue, struck the two juveniles that were walking in the roadway. The driver of the Highlander stated he did not see the juveniles in the roadway before striking them and stopped to render aid and to call the police."
One of the juveniles suffered moderate injuries, and the other suffered severe injuries. They were both airlifted from a local hospital to a Pediatric Facility in Rapides Parish.
The crash is still under investigation.
