Lake Charles, La. - After fleeing from police early Monday morning, a local man was apprehended and arrested by officers from the Lake Charles Police Department after they learned he sexually assaulted a victim who was on their way to work.

The incident took place on October 23, at 5:21 a.m., where the victim told police they were walking in the 600 block of Boston Alley headed to work. The suspect, 32-year-old Orlando Demond Morris Charles approached the victim from behind, and used a weapon to force the victim into a vacant lot where he then sexually assaulted the victim, said a media release.

The victim was able to identify the suspect. Police apprehended Charles at the intersection of Boston Alley and Mill Street.

An investigation is still ongoing, and Orlando Demond Morris Charles has been charged with 1st-degree rape and 2nd-degree kidnapping. His bond is set at $500,000.
